Happy 2022 everyone! Need a little motivation to stick to your resolutions for the year? Then, take cue from the enthusiastic, disciplined and industrious Alaskan huskies at Positive Energy Outdoors in Duluth, Minnesota.
The 4wheel ATV shown in the pic above with our son Jake was used as an anchor behind two teams of sled dogs. Before heading out on the toboggans, the weight of the vehicle would hold all the dogs at bay. Otherwise they would pull away at top speeds in their excitement.
Dogsledding was a fully interactive, hands on experience for our whole family. Phoebe and I helped one of the Mushers push the sleds out into the meadow. Then, Phil, Zac and Jake helped harness and hook the dogs up to the towline.
As you will see in the YouTube video below, Alaskan huskies are eager to get out and run. Because they are bred for performance, they look different from Siberian huskies. Alaskans can be a solid color, multiple colors, speckled, have striking masks, floppy or pointy ears, blue or brown eyes, and range in size from 30 to 70 lbs.
Many of these dogs were champions in the Iditarod and other sled races. They’ve since retired but still have the strength and energy to pull at 10 to 14 years old. If my calculations are correct, that’s about 70 to 98 years old in human years. But these pups manage to maintain an unmistakable enthusiasm for life. They love what they do and work hard at it!
We hope this will be a source of inspiration to stick to those resolutions you sought out to achieve at the beginning of the year. Hitch yourself up to like minded people and keep running toward your goals.
