Christmas Trees in Kaibab National Forest

Did you know you can cut your own Christmas tree in Kaibab National Forest? With a permit you purchase online, you can participate in this special tradition which also helps to maintain a healthy forest.

The permit allows the holder to cut up to 5 trees ($15 per tree) of any species that is not more than 10 feet in height within a designated area from Nov. 9th – Dec. 31st. So, there’s still time to purchase a permit if you plan to keep a tree up until Three Kings Day on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

What’s Three Kings Day? Well, at the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas comes a day called the Epiphany, or Three Kings Day. This holiday is celebrated as the day the three wise men first saw baby Jesus and brought him gifts.

Permits and details about designated cutting areas and types of trees that may be cut can be found at our Resources tab for Recreation.gov or click the link below.
